Consultation for Families, Caregivers & Educators
Helping you navigate mental health, educational, and healthcare systems with greater confidence.
Guidance You Can Trust
Gain the confidence you need to effectively navigate mental health, educational, and healthcare systems for you and your loved ones

Supporting someone you love through emotional, behavioral, developmental, academic, or mental health challenges can feel overwhelming. Whether you are a parent, caregiver, educator, grandparent, spouse, partner, or another important support person, you may find yourself wondering what your loved one needs, where to begin, or how to advocate effectively across multiple systems of care.
You do not need to navigate those decisions alone.
Consultation provides a collaborative space to ask questions, better understand concerns, learn about available supports, and receive individualized, evidence-informed guidance tailored to your unique situation. Whether you're seeking clarity about school-based services, wondering what type of evaluation or provider may be appropriate, trying to better understand a loved one's behaviors, or looking for practical ways to offer support, consultation is designed to help you move forward with greater confidence and peace of mind.
Unlike psychotherapy, consultation focuses on education, systems navigation, and practical recommendations. My goal is to empower you with knowledge, helping you become a stronger advocate while feeling more informed and prepared throughout the process.
"Every child, family, and situation is unique. Together, we can identify the next right step."
Why Consultation?
Mental health, educational, and healthcare systems are often complex. Families frequently receive different recommendations from schools, physicians, therapists, psychologists, and other professionals, leaving them unsure of what to do next. Even when everyone shares the same goal, it can be difficult to understand how the pieces fit together or which supports may be most beneficial.
Sometimes there is a diagnosis. Sometimes there is not.
Some children and adults clearly meet criteria for a disability or mental health condition. Others experience meaningful emotional, behavioral, social, executive functioning, or academic impairments that significantly affect daily life without meeting formal diagnostic criteria. Many high-achieving individuals also work incredibly hard to compensate for struggles that remain largely invisible to others. Their grades may be excellent, their behavior may appear compliant, and yet internally they may be experiencing significant anxiety, perfectionism, trauma responses, emotional exhaustion, or other concerns that deserve understanding and support.
Consultation is designed to help you better understand the whole person—not simply a diagnosis. Together, we can explore strengths, challenges, environmental factors, developmental considerations, and practical next steps that support long-term success across home, school, work, healthcare, and everyday life.

I'm Kathrina Cann, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Qualified Supervisor, Certified EMDR Therapist™, EMDRIA Approved Consultant™, EMDR Training Facilitator, Certified School Counselor, Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, and Inclusive Eating Disorder Specialist–Consultant.
Before founding Nourished Minds Therapy & Consulting, I spent nearly a decade serving children, adolescents, families, and educators within one of the nation's largest public school districts. My roles included School Counselor, District Mental Health Counselor, 504 Coordinator, MTSS team member, Child Find participant, and IEP team member. Throughout my career, I collaborated closely with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, physicians, pediatricians, therapists, community agencies, and families to help students access meaningful educational and mental health supports.
I was honored to receive the Orange County Public Schools Middle School Counselor of the Year (2016–2017) award in recognition of my advocacy, program development, and commitment to improving outcomes for students and families. Throughout my educational career, I developed behavioral interventions, created prevention and mental health programming, supported crisis response, collaborated with multidisciplinary teams, and helped families successfully navigate complex educational and community systems.
In addition to supporting students and families directly, I have supervised and mentored school counseling interns throughout my career, helping prepare future counselors to respond thoughtfully, ethically, and compassionately to the diverse needs of students and school communities. As a doctoral student in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of Central Florida, my work continues to build upon this passion. My research focuses on strengthening counselor preparation, advancing evidence-informed and culturally responsive practices, and helping ensure that school counselors and other helping professionals are equipped to recognize, understand, and respond to the complex emotional, developmental, and mental health needs of the individuals they serve.
Today, I combine these educational experiences with advanced clinical training in trauma, dissociation, eating disorders, anxiety, neurodiversity, identity development, and culturally responsive care. My approach remains the same as it has always been: helping individuals and families better understand the whole person, bridge gaps between systems, and feel empowered to advocate for the supports they deserve.
Every consultation is individualized, collaborative, and grounded in practical recommendations you can begin applying immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this therapy?
No. Consultation is educational and informational in nature and does not establish a therapeutic relationship. It is not a substitute for psychotherapy, crisis intervention, psychological assessment, legal advice, or medical care.
Can you review records?
Yes. When appropriate, I may review evaluations, school documents, treatment recommendations, report cards, behavioral data, or other relevant records to provide more individualized consultation.
Does someone need to have a diagnosis?
Not at all. Many individuals experience meaningful struggles without meeting criteria for a formal diagnosis. Consultation focuses on understanding concerns, identifying strengths and needs, and helping you determine appropriate next steps regardless of whether a diagnosis is present.
Can you tell me whether someone has a diagnosis?
No. I cannot diagnose or provide treatment recommendations for someone who is not my client. However, I can help you understand common patterns, discuss evidence-based information, explain available supports, and identify appropriate referrals or resources.
What should I expect after our consultation?
My goal is for you to leave with greater clarity, practical recommendations, and increased confidence in understanding your situation and navigating the systems that can best support your loved one.
Who is consultation for?
Parents, caregivers, educators, grandparents, spouses, partners, adult children, family members, and anyone seeking professional guidance regarding someone they care about.
