Hello and welcome,

“Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again."

― Nelson Mandela

Just as we fuel our bodies to sustain physical health, nourishing our mental health is crucial for maintaining balance and resilience. Through your decision to engage in the therapeutic process, you increase your ability to cope with difficult emotions, overcome challenges, and create healthy relationships. These steps you are taking lay the groundwork for leading a life where you can move beyond merely "surviving" to thriving.

I strongly believe therapy that gets results goes further than simply talking about feelings. In my practice, I provide psychological education to help give you perspective about how patterns of thinking, relating, feeling, and behaving may be benefiting you or limiting you from reaching your goals. I combine this with mindfulness, HAES® aligned and trauma informed strategies to ensure you have the space and safety needed to get to the roots of your stress or emotional wounds and find healing. We work collaboratively towards your optimal state of well-being at your pace.

Meet the Therapist:

Kathrina Cann, LMHC

My name is Kathrina Cann, and I am the founder and owner of Nourished Minds Therapy and Consulting. I received my Master's of Art in Counselor Education from the University of Central Florida (go Knights!) and am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Qualified Supervisor (QS), Certified EMDR Therapist, Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, and Certified School Counselor.

As I believe in supporting wellness of the whole person, I have a special passion in the treatment of trauma, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, anxiety, and depression. Having lived experience as a recovered perfectionist, I tend to connect well with clients who are trying to be it all, do it all, or wish they were doing more and yet feel suffocated on the inside. My background working in community mental health, private practice, university settings, and schools provided me with a wide range of experience supporting youth and adults with their mental health needs. When I am not in session, you are typically going to find me spending time with close friends and family (#extroverted.introvert), visiting local restaurants and parks, and hanging out with my fur and feather babies at home!

My approach to therapy is integrative and tailored to individual client needs, meaning you and I decide together what approaches we use and what best fits. My specializations include EMDR, Internal Family Systems, DBT, Intuitive Eating, CBT, and ACT. The counseling I provide is highly strength-based as I am an avid believer that everyone, with the right support, can tap into their own unique ability to live a life of joy, balance, and purpose. Helping my clients walk away from sessions with greater clarity of who they are, where they want to go, and how to get there is my passion.

EMDR

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a form of talk therapy that helps us address problems in our lives by examining how our thoughts, or cognitions, influence our feelings and behaviors.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an approach to treatment that focuses on how trauma from our past and present, or fears about the future, are getting “stuck” in mostly unconscious parts of our minds and blocking our ability to heal and move forward.

Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems therapy believes the mind is its own ecosystem: we are made up of several “parts” that, when functioning ideally, work together to produce a healthy centered individual. Significant stress arrives when these parts of us are in conflict, blocking our ability to make decisions, accomplish tasks, or relate to others in positive ways.

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy combines principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with mindfulness practices to help clients build skills for managing emotions, relationships, and crises effectively. Research suggests that DBT can lead to significant improvements in emotion regulation, interpersonal functioning, and overall quality of life.

HAES®

Health At Every Size®

Using a Health At Every Size® (HAES®) approach to health involves prioritizing overall well-being and holistic health rather than focusing solely on weight loss or achieving a specific body size. It emphasizes self-acceptance, body respect, and intuitive eating, encouraging individuals to listen to their bodies' cues for hunger, fullness, and satisfaction.

Intuitive Eating

Intuitive Eating is an approach to health and well-being that rejects the traditional diet mentality in favor of reconnecting with the body's natural signals for hunger, fullness, and satisfaction. Emphasizing a non-restrictive, attuned relationship with food, Intuitive Eating encourages individuals to honor their cravings, trust their body's wisdom, and cultivate a positive mindset towards eating.

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an approach that offers a path towards embracing change, fostering resilience, and living a life aligned with our deepest values. ACT is rooted in the belief that suffering is a natural part of the human experience, and our attempts to avoid or control it often lead to further distress. Instead of fighting against our thoughts and emotions, ACT encourages us to accept them fully, acknowledging their presence without judgment or resistance.
